Gopal Jain, Donor
“Giving money away is more difficult than making it. If you care about the results, giving money away effectively and creating meaningful impact is hard work.”
So says Gopal Jain, co-founder of private equity firm Gaja Capital Partners. A pioneer in equity research and investment management in India, Gopal has made 20 private equity investments in India and is also Leaders’ Quest Foundation’s first Indian donor. He describes his donation to support grassroots leaders in Mumbai as a serious investment.
“We are very honoured when we can give some of our money away, so I approach giving very carefully,” explains Gopal. “I am careful of giving money to people I trust. I trust, admire and connect with the work of Leaders’ Quest and the Foundation.”
Gopal recently extended this trust, introducing investors of Gaja Capital Partners to the Foundation’s fellowship programme on a visit to the Chembur slum community in Mumbai. “We wanted to provide insight into those parts of India many have only heard of,” he says. “More importantly, we wanted to connect new people to Leaders’ Quest and show that our commitment to society goes beyond making money for our investors – it involves making contributions to society in whatever way we can,” he says. “Our investors were impressed with the work of the Foundation, and were moved and enriched by the experience.”
