When Chris Mathias (centre back), Founder of Arbor Ventures, went to visit the Quest Fellowship programme in the Chembur slum community of Mumbai, he admits he had doubts.
“I invested in the Foundation because I trusted Leaders’ Quest, but I’m sceptical of soft, hard-to-measure initiatives. You can measure numbers but they really can’t tell you the full story. Human beings don’t change easily. Now, having seen how the Foundation is changing lives, I’m a complete convert.”
Born and raised in India, Chris is a successful entrepreneur based in the UK with his wife and three children. An active philanthropist, Chris sits on the board of several charities and not-for-profit organisations. He supports long-term, sustainable projects that build valuable skills among local communities.
“We spent time in the slum communities talking with grassroots leaders that had been through the fellowship programme. I speak Hindi, as did a few of us there, so once we were able to converse without using a translator, everyone relaxed and the conversation was very open,” he says.
